The annual membership fee for the current 2020 Fiscal Year (September 1, 2020-August 31, 2021) is $100.00 per athlete (covering Indoor, Outdoor, and Cross Country seasons). The annual membership includes individual memberships in USATF and AAU, plus a Strider T-Shirt, insurance and entry fees for the Strider Invitational. Old uniforms items are available, and new ones may be purchased. AAU membership is September 1 through August 31 of the following year, corresponding to the CCS Fiscal year. The USATF membership period is January 1 through December 31. An athlete paying dues any time between now and August, 2022 will have an active membership for CCS and AAU through August 31, 2022 and an active membership in USATF through December 2022. Sign-ups for new members are never closed and we welcome new members throughout the year. Athletes are encouraged to pay their dues at the beginning of the Fiscal Year every year (by September 1). You must pay your membership before you practice with CCS or participate in any meets.
The Capital City Striders (CCS) welcomes new members of all ages from 4 to 100! We have a great training program, and happily accept students or adults with no experience. Download the CCS Membership form from the link below and join the Striders! Coach Chip Ferrell needs your membership form and a copy of your birth certificate. You may contact Coach Ferrell if you (or people you know) want to join CCS. Coach Ferrell may be contacted at 304-552-5306 (cell) or 304-932-6319 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. The membership form may be downloaded and printed here.
We provide coaching and training for 2 hours once a week indoors during the winter and two hours for as many days a week outdoors as are allowed at Laidley Field (days with meets are excluded). Sometimes, when we need more practices and Laidley Field is reserved, we practice at other locations, including the grounds of the Police Academy in Dunbar. The outdoor training season normally begins April 1 of every year. In addition to the (normally) 7-9 meets we organize and run locally, we take our Youth athletes to additional regional and national meets outside of WV. Meets occur all year. Outdoor Track and Field meets are held from April until September, then Cross Country meets start in the Fall, and Indoor Track and Field meets run November through March.
Many of our Striders succeed to win Regional, National, and All-American Awards! Many receive support to Colleges and Universities!
Any athlete participating in High School or Middle School Track and Field programs may come out and practice with the team, however please obtain approval of your school coach for this CCS training. High School students can not compete on the CCS team until after their competition season is complete. Registration for High School athletes will be the first Monday after the final school competition.
Adults have opportunities to compete at open and invitational CCS meets at Laidley Field, and at AAU, USATF, and NSGA meets all over the US. USATF considers Open athletes those athletes between 19 and 30. Masters in USATF begin at 30. AAU is similar. NSGA (which runs state meets plus a national meet every 2 years which has higher attendance than any other track meet in the US) considers masters athletes to be 50 and above.
